Dr. Tijerino is an accomplished expert in ontology engineering, semantic web, social networking systems and virtual reality. Dr. Tijerino is a member of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence, the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence and the IEEE Computer Society. He has published numerous papers in international publications and has presented his work at numerous international events. Dr. Tijerino is recognized as one of the pioneers in the field of ontology research and has contributed his work in areas such as mental image representation through geometric primitives, enterprise application integration and information retrieval and analysis. His innovative capabilities have allowed Dr. Tijerino to contribute also in the areas of virtual communities, agent-based systems and distributed collaborative workspaces. He has over 16 years of academic and commercial experience on areas such as artificial intelligence, expert systems, knowledge acquisition for expert systems, autonomous software agents, conversational agents, multimedia, 3D graphics, multi-modal interfaces, speech recognition, technical architecture, large-scale knowledge base development, telecommunications, and other technical areas.
Dr. Tijerino obtained his BS in Computer Information Systems from Brigham Young University in Hawaii. Lured by the Fifth Generation Computer Project and a full academic scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education (Mombusho), he moved to Japan to continue his advanced degree at Osaka University, where he obtained his MS in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence.
Originally from Venezuela, Yuri has lived most of his life in other places. Although he considers himself a Citizen of the World, He became a US citizen in March of 2007. He obtained his undergraduate education at Mesa Community College and Brigham Young University Hawaii, where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems. Later, he obtained a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Osaka University in Japan. My graduate school and subsequent career has centered around ontology technologies, which he pioneered from the mid-80s.
Dr. Tijerino is an associate professor at the Department of Applied Media Informatics at the School of Policy Studies at Kwansei Gakuin University at Sanda-City in Japan from April 2005 as an associate professor. There he is the director for the Data Extraction Group at Brigham Young University.
Dr. Tijerino also has extensive industry experience. From 1993 through the present he has been involved in various companies in the US and Japan. He has even founded several companies and have played many technical and business roles. Most recently he founded A Stealth Mode Company., a company dedicated to the development of tools, technologies, products and custom solutions for the next generation of the Web. Currently, this company is in stealth mode. One of the key components for the Semantic Web is ontology engineering, which has been his field of expertise since the late 80s.
